While multi-effects pedals aren't often seen in many "professional" pedalboards or gear setups, the reality is that many working musicians use them on a daily basis. The Boss GT-1B is a companion to the GT-1 (the guitar version), and while the GT-1B has its limitations, there are many strengths to a unit as portable and flexible as this one.
The GT-1B has pretty much any effect you could ask for. There are "standard" effects like compression, EQ (graphic and parametric), T-Wah, overdrive, distortion, modulation, delay, and reverb. But you can also find some pretty wild effects like harmonist, bass synth, defretter, and a "bass simulator" that lets you transform your instrument via emulation of pickup and active/passive circuitry, even an "upright" simulation. Like the guitar version, a looper and expression pedal are also included.
There are an array of inputs and outputs for most practice and gigging situations, including headphone out and auxiliary in. A USB port is included to connect to a Mac or PC to run Boss's Tone Studio software, which facilitates ease of editing.
The unit is fairly compact and can easily fit into a gig bag or backpack. It runs on a standard Boss-type adapter or 4 AA batteries for even more convenience.

Owners of the GT-1B are well-satisfied bunch. They are impressed by its portability, sound quality, and durability, as well as its relatively low price. A few users have complained about the lack of an included power supply, though noted hat the GT-1B plays nicely with other power supplies like the True Tone 1-Spot. There's not a lot of love for the included presets either, though it's pretty easy to edit with the Boss Tone Studio software.
